Rediscovery

Downward Dog...in more ways than one
trying to let go of fear as I use the fishtank for balance...
I actually did it...this pic didn't get when I got my legs up straight (perils of timed shots) but I was actually able to balance in headstand, straight, without a wall behind me!
While I love discovering new, different and surprisingly pleasant things, I am also appreciative when I rediscover old loves and passions. Such has been  my experience this week with yoga. I started my yoga practice in 1997 with Bikram (hot), Iyengar and Ashtanga. Sadly, as life's responsibilities (child, school, tight wallet) piled up, my physical well being declined and yoga fell by the wayside. But. I never forgot how it made me feel...not only was my body strong but the benefits to my mental and spiritual well being were balanced and open.

Well. I want that back. So, despite my flubbery, tight, confused, unbalanced body and mind, I went to my first class in years last week. Now I am hooked again. I'm even practicing at home, which was formerly unheard of. While I still struggle with sirsasana (headstand) without a wall, the dogs enjoyed my downward dog position. I am doing headstand every day since the mental benefits are great and immediate: clarity and calmness of mind, alertness and increased energy. Yoga means 'unity' or 'oneness'...something I desperately need in my life right now.
